11 09 2011

I simply cannot believe that it has been 10 years since that dreadful day.  In the last ten years, I have spent more time in New York and even more time at Ground Zero than I can count.  Each time, somber and poignant.

This year, for the anniversary, I was able to spend it with my dear friends at Lion’s Park in Zionsville, IN.  The Lion’s Club is an outstanding supporter of Miss Indiana and I love helping out at their events, especially because they always know how to have a great time.

This weekend was their Fall Festival and I came to spend some time with Miss Indiana 2011, Jackie Jerlecki.  She was asked to make an official appearance as the current Miss Indiana, walking the park, taking pictures and signing autographs for the visitors.  She was spectacular and everyone fell in love with her.  I have to admit it was really nice being in the shadows for once, but its still exhausting.

Our last event of the day was to attend the entertainment tent to listen to a 9/11 survivor about his story.  Tears welled up in my eyes on several occasions as he described not only the day of the event, but the days after the tragedy and how his family and faith kept him motivated.  He attributes everything in his life to his Lord and for that I was tremendously grateful.  A man with everything to lose, never lost his love for his Savior.  We can all take notice and take a lesson from him.

Dear Lord, thank for the moments of humility.  You bless our lives everyday with health, happiness, family, friends and support, yet we take that all for granted too often and too easily.  Thank you for the gentle reminders to live each day as you would have us live and that we always live for you and for your will.  In our lives, Lord, your will be done. Amen.
